NEW – Choctaw Nation Announces Changes for STAR Program for Student Achievement
The Choctaw STAR program recognizes students for outstanding grades and perfect attendance. Until this semester, the Choctaw Nation has allowed schools to apply for STAR awards on their students’ behalf, then distribute the awards to students from each school site. Beginning June 1, 2022, parents and guardians will be responsible for submitting the STAR application for their eligible students in grades 2-12. The Choctaw Nation will accept reward applications from June 1 to September 1, 2022. Additional information is found on the STAR website at https://www.choctawnation.com/star-program.
In closing, please note that as a result of these changes, Vanoss School will no longer request STAR awards for Choctaw students. This change only affects students who are members of the Choctaw Nation since other tribal nations, including Chickasaw Nation, already require parents and guardians to apply on behalf of their children. If you have questions, please contact Vanoss JOM Director Leah Patterson. You may also contact the Choctaw STAR office at (800)522-6170.
